EO Online is a self-paced online equal opportunity training program for higher education employees. It contains many real life examples and employs interactive learning techniques. EO Online is updated annually.

QUT expects all staff to complete this program. Supervisors and managers should both modules (1 and 2) of this traning and encourage their staff to include EO Online as part of their own professional development.

New staff should undertake this training within three (3) months of appointment. Staff who are members of selection and promotion committees should endeavour to complete this training package prior to attending selection or promotion panels.

Staff are encouraged to re-visit EO Online periodically (every 2 - 3 years) to refresh their knowledge, and to use the program as a resource when necessary.

EO Online consists of two modules:

  • Module 1 is for everyone.
  • Module 2 is specifically aimed at supervisors and managers.

At the end of each module you are asked to enter your details to confirm your completion of the module. A Certificate of Attainment will be emailed to you at your nominated address.

Learning outcomes

By working through the EO Online modules, participants will:

  • learn how to deal with and prevent discrimination and harassment in the workplace
  • understand your legal rights and responsibilities to achieve a discrimination and harassment free campus
  • increase your awareness of equity policies, issues and strategies at QUT
  • have a reference for dealing with grievances.

Background

QUT is committed to creating a positive environment in which all students and staff are treated fairly and equitably. Everyone has the right to study and work in an environment free of harassment and discrimination.

This program aims to assist with this goal by providing:

  • self paced, equal opportunity training for a broad range of university staff
  • theoretical knowledge and a practical understanding of how to apply equal opportunity principles in work and study environments
  • real life case studies, examples and interactive learning techniques for self assessment.

EO Online is the product of a consortium of NSW universities and is administered by the Equity and Diversity Unit of the University of Wollongong.

Mode of delivery

Self-directed: the program is primarily designed for staff to do as part of their own work schedules. The self-directed modules may take between 45 minutes and 55 minutes.

Lab session: the lab session allows staff to complete the program uninterrupted and with assistance from the facilitator. It is of particular benefit to:

  • new staff
  • staff without access to their own computer
  • staff who need additional help with computing or the module itself
  • staff who would benefit from time away from their office to complete the module uninterrupted.

The lab session is 1.5 hours and includes introductory information and additional time to undertake the module.
