About Uni-Talk |
Uni-talk was a project funded from 1997 - 2001 aimed at giving people in rural and isolated areas an insight into life as a university student. This was done through regional live broadcasts where current students would answer questions posed by high schools students about going to uni. The project primarily targets students in years 10-12 at schools in rural and regional areas of Queensland, but other people have also found the Uni-Talk initiatives to be informative.
The Broadcast The main initiative of the project is the program Uni-Talk: Going to University - an interactive satellite television broadcast to school groups in rural and isolated areas of Queensland. The broadcast features a panel of university students, who came from rural and isolated areas, describing their experiences. They discuss issues such as courses and entry procedures, moving to the city, finding accommodation, making friends, orientation, study tips and recreation activities. University staff provide information about services available to students, and video material is used to show aspects of university life. School groups watching the live broadcast are able to phone or fax in questions to be answered by the panel. The Uni-Talk broadcast was first offered in 1997 and ended in 2001. The site was initially designed in 1997 by Faith Byers, a QUT Communication Design graduate.
