Commonwealth Scholarships |

Applications for 2008 Equity Scholarship Schemes are now available. Commonwealth Scholarships (previously known as Commonwealth Learning Scholarships) were introduced by the Commonwealth Government in 2004 and have been expanded for 2008. There are three types of Commonwealth Scholarships (CS) available to QUT students. Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships (CECS) Students can only be awarded a CECS or a CAS but not both, unless they are a holder of an IAS. Indigenous Access Scholarship (IAS)
Who is eligible to apply?You are eligible to apply for a Commonwealth Scholarship (CS) if you: are an Australian citizen or the holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; and are undertaking an undergraduate course of study, or a graduate diploma in an area of National Priority at QUT as a Commonwealth supported student; and meet the low socio-economic status criteria; and meet the full-time student requirements or have extenuating circumstances for studying part-time; and have not already completed the requirements of a course of study regarded by QUT to be equivalent to an Australian bachelor's or higher level award, unless such award is a prerequisite to your current course of study and there is not alternative pathway into that course of study at QUT. are undertaking a component of your course overseas (exchange program) or with a host provider (cross-institutionally) that is approved by QUT for your current course of study.
In addition to the above eligibility requirements, students applying for the Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarships (CAS) must meet the following requirements. Within the four years immediately preceding the commencement of the current higher education course of study, you: have lived in regional or remote area of Australia for a total of at least three years; OR completed the final two years of schooling in a high school of college in a regional or remote area; OR resided at a boarding school in a major city of Australia in order to complete your final two years of secondary education and your permanent home address was in a regional or remote area of Australia ; OR relocated from a regional or remote area of Australia to undertake vocational education and training (eg TAFE) for a maximum of two years immediately preceding the commencement of their undergraduate course of study; AND it was necessary for you to move away from a regional or remote area in order to undertake your course of study; AND as a result of moving, you incur additional accommodation costs.
You are eligible to apply for an Indigenous Access Scholarship (IAS) if you: are an Indigenous person, where for the purposes of a CS you: are of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; and identify and are accepted as an Australia Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in the community which you live or have lived; and can provide documentation confirming your status as an Indigenous person, including a signed affirmation declaring that you identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and confirmation, in writing with the corporate seal from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander incorporated organisation.
