Accessibility Maps for QUT campuses
As part of QUT's committment to an inclusive environment, the Disability Services Program has produced Accessibility Maps for each of QUT's three campuses.
The maps mark out key facilities such as accessible entrances, parking and toilets.
The maps are also available as a fold-out brochure from the Student Centre on each campus or from the from the Equity Section

Guide for students with a disability
The Guide for Students with a Disability is a comprehensive brochure
for all students with a disability who are planning to undertake study at QUT.
It provides information on:
- Admission and enrolment procedures
- QUT's Disability Services Program
- Access to QUT and disability services and facilties
- Rights and responsibilities
- External service agency
- Notification of need for support services form

Disability CD-ROM for students
The CD-ROM has details of the services available to students with a disability - maps showing accessibility, special parking, key locations and information for all buildings on all QUT campuses.
The CD includes a room locator and building details for all buildings on all QUT campuses. It also links to the Disability Guide for Students , and other useful websites.
It is available from Disability Services by contacting the Equity Section or your Disability Adviser .

Supporting students with a disability - a guide for staff
The new web-based guide Supporting students with a disability - a guide for staff is the latest tool to assist staff in supporting students with a disability. This comprehensive guide is aimed at academic and professional staff who provide teaching and administrative support to students with a range of disabilities.

Disability Discrimination: a guide for staff
This guide has been developed primarily for academic staff who work closely with students who have a disability. It provides information on the University's obligations, and individuals' obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act.
Practical examples relevant to the QUT teaching environment are also provided.Click here for a PDF version of this booklet (A4 size).
To obtain a print copy or other alternative format, contact the Equity Section or a Disability Officer on your nearest campus.
Resources for an Accessible
Web
Resources
for an Accessible Web is a new web-based resource for staff and students
involved in designing, creating and maintaining websites.
The aim of the site is to provide the tools for creating universal designs which
are suitable for the needs of all web users including those with a disability,
from non-English speaking backgrounds or who have limited access or technological
limitations in accessing the web. This site is an essential tool for both staff
and students.

Information about psychiatric
disabilities
Succeeding with a psychiatric disability in the university environment was a published in 1997 as a joint project between QUT's Counselling Services and the Tertiary Initiatives for People with Disabilities TIPD. Funding for this project was made possible through an Equity Initiative Grant and the TIPD.
The information kit provides valuable information and advice for both staff and students with a mental illness, or in dealing with others (staff and students alike) who have a mental illness.

The main booklet (above) includes definitions of mental illness and psychiatric disability, suggestions for succeeding at university with a mental illness, suggestions for university staff, university and community support services and further reading and resources.
There are also eight (8) short introductory brochures covering various topics
related to succeeding with a psychiatice disability in the university environment.

Students with Disabilities: Code of Practice for Australian Tertiary Institutions.
The Code of Practice for Australian tertiary institutions establishes principles and guidelines for planning and delivery of services to students with disabilities across the tertiary education sector recommends national minimum standards of service and support identifies and documents examples of good practice in institutional responses to students with disabilities. It is becoming dated but still contains a wealth of useful material.
