Equal Opportunity

What is Equity Opportunity? QUT has a continuing obligation under Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Act 1999 to develop and implement strategies to improve employment prospects, remuneration and career development for women. The Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Act 1999 aims to:

  • promote merit in employment;
  • promote equal employment opportunity and eliminate discrimination; and
  • encourage consultation between employers and employees on these issues.

International Women's Day 2008

The theme for the 2008 QUT IWD lunch is 'Women, poverty and access to education'

International Women's Day is an occasion marked by women around the world. This date is also commemorated at the United Nations and is designated as a national holiday in some countries.

It is celebrated on 8 March each year.

QUT awarded 'EOWA Employer of Choice for women'

QUT has been awarded the Equal Opportunity in the Workplace Agency (EOWA) "Employer of Choice for Women" award since 2002. In 2008, QUT remains one a select group of organisations that are recognising and advancing women in the workplace. For more information about this award, go to www.eowa.gov.au

Staff Networks - WomeNet

WomeNet is an e-mail group open to all women at all levels in academic, research, technical, and general positions at QUT. The WomeNet e-mail group is part of a broader women’s network which has been established in response to the views expressed by women at QUT. The network will include events and forums as well as the e-mail group. For more information on WomeNet and to subscribe, click here
