What is an Ally?
Al-ly (noun) someone who helps and supports someone else.
Al-lies (noun, plural) a group united in support of a common goal or shared interests.
An Ally provides a 'safe zone' for staff and students who identify as lesbian,
gay, bi-sexual, transgender, intersex or queer (LGBTIQ). An Ally is any person
who is informed about, is sensitive toward and has an understanding of staff
and students who identify as LGBTIQ and the issues they face at work, in study
and within the community.
An Ally affirms the experience and rights of staff who identify as LGBTIQ and
chooses to challenge the homophobic and heterosexist values of others in a variety
of ways including by individual example, personal awareness and support.
