QUT is committed to ensuring a harmonious, fair and just working and learning environment. To ensure this, staff and students have access to processes that allow for grievances, disputes, problems and complaints to be resolved appropriately.

QUT Grievance Resolution Policy

In the event that a grievance occurs, QUT has a grievance resolution policy and procedures to protect all staff and students from discrimination, harassment, bullying, work or study related grievances.

QUT's approach to grievance resolution emphasises:

  • fairness and impartiality
  • conciliation
  • the principles of natural justice and procedural fairness
  • resolution of grievances as early as possible and as close as possible to the source
  • the role of supervisors in seeking to prevent and resolve grievances.

Informal and early resolution of grievances be encouraged; and conciliation of grievances will be undertaken by relevant University officers to assist parties to reach agreement, where possible.

There are three sets of grievance resolution procedures covering the various incidences of discrimination, harassment, bullying, other work-related or student-related grievances. Each process is handled by a different area within the University.

Discrimination Contact Officers

Discrimination Contact Officers are available to all staff and students to provide advice, information and support in relation to discrimination and harassment-related incidences.

The Ally Network is available for staff and students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex or queer. Ally Network members are trained to provide support and referral, and promote an inclusive university.
