Treating people equitably means treating them all the same right?

Wrong. It's a common misconception that treating people equitably means treating them all the same. However, many individuals and groups of people experience social disadvantage that creates barriers to their success.

To give everyone a fair chance to compete and achieve to their full potential, QUT provides assistance to particular groups and individuals.

The role of Equity Services

The key role of the Equity Services Department is as a cultural change agent, helping QUT to develop an organisational culture that values diversity and equal opportunity. In effect this involves the creation of an environment which is supportive of the social and cultural diversity of students and staff at QUT, and which is free from discrimination.

Our key services include

• Student support such as equity scholarships and disability services.
• Events for staff and students
• Opportunities for staff through training, staff equity forum and local faculty or divisional equity committee.
• support for staff or students who have experienced discrimination

• Discrimination Contact Officers who can provide a point of referral for discrimination and harassment matters for both staff and students.
